Items Of Interest From The Past And Present....
I will be delving into varied topics relating to United States history, humor, internet tips, factoids, some great tunes, rants and observations and a wide range of other topics (refer to the "Archive"
listing - below right, frame), some controversial and some not....copy, pasting and downloading anything you see on this site is encouraged!
Many, but not all of the items illuminated here have been published and presented in the distant past and have been somewhat forgotten.
Most files presented are either in .txt, .html, .pdf, .jpg or .docx format and have been appropriated from other websites, newspapers, magazines, books and articles. I cite the "Fair
Use" doctrine for many of the articles posted.
I am not a professional writer or web developer - just an old guy from New England who has an unbridled curiosity and a myriad of interests.
One of my main intentions with this blog is not to "poke the bear, elephant or the donkey", unless they need poking - many of the articles are seeded with initial facts and hopefully are designed to stimulate and provoke, and
your curiosity should prompt you to dig further for more information until a possible final conclusion is reached.
Regarding any visitation of a guest to this site from a foreign shore - you might learn a little something regarding the mindset of the common man (and woman) of this country....a country made up of a multitude of immigrants and original native peoples - peoples of many cultures, all
with hopes, dreams and ideas - an imperfect country which I, a son of immigrants, am a part of - for better or for sometimes, worse.

....I don’t know about you, but I often feel deeply unsatisfied after reading an item in an encyclopedia, any encyclopedia from Britannica to Encarta. Sure, I’ve been told most everything I’m supposed to know about the person or event. And that’s just the point. There’s rarely anything I’m not supposed to know, anything quirky or surprising.Or take textbooks....History always follows such a logical progression of battles and treaties, of great men and women. Remember that first snippet you read about Thomas Edison? No doubt it told you about the genius’s invention of the electric light, phonograph, and motion pictures, but did it mention Edison’s share in building the first electric chair or his brutal feud with George Westinghouse that almost led to a duel by electric jolts? I didn’t think so.I hope you find this material provocative. I hope it expands your view of the past; I hope it fleshes out our ancestors; I hope it amuses you.Knowledge does not have to be serious.......Richard Zacks
